Dubai: EMS, a Dubai-based smartphone firm, has signed a new agreement with mobile phone content provider Polar Mobile to launch a raft of new mobile apps for more than 100 media companies across the Middle East.
A strategic partner that works in partnership with BlackBerry manufacturer Research in Motion (RIM), EMS announced on Wednesday that the company is already working with media outlets such as Gulf News to bring new content to smartphones and tablets across all platforms.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Babar Khan, CEO of EMS, said his company "is focused on continuing to be the smartphone provider for the region which includes working with media companies to enable local content across all major devices."
After doing their homework, EMS said: "We were impressed with Polar Mobile, their track record in media, cross-device focus and ability to scale globally."
The company did not release financial figures involved.
Kunal Gupta, CEO of Polar Mobile, said the firm is looking to enter a market in its infancy as part of a longer view and presence in the region.
"The Middle East region represents an opportunity for Polar to grow its presence, as it is early days for local media companies and their adoption of mobile apps," Gupta said.
Polar Mobile offers what it calls the SMART platform, a product the company says powers more than 750 mobile apps across smartphones and tablets.
