Dubai: Larsen & Toubro, an India-based global conglomerate that helped build Abu Dhabi airport, has chosen to locate the new headquarters of its IT subsidiary, L&T Infotech Middle East, in Dubai.
Sudip Banerjee, CEO of L&T Infotech, made the announcement yesterday at Gitex Technology Week at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The new regional headquarters will serve satellite offices across the Middle East in Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia and will begin a recruitment drive for ICT experts in coming weeks for 30 people in the early stages of the setup, he said.
"We want to invest in local training here for people who can be part of our team," Banerjee told reporters.
The head-office population of the software-solutions company will increase over the next 12 months, he pledged.
The office will be located in the six-year-old Dubai Outsource Zone located near the Dubai Academic City.
"We're especially happy with the facilities offered to us in the Dubai Outsource Zone," Banerjee said, noting that Dubai is a good business hub given its "communications, talent and infrastructure… which is good for the software industry."
He lauded Dubai officials for the ease of relations that "made it possible for us to set up here."
Various sectors
A bright future for L&T Infotech will help the parent company reach an even fuller market potential with estimates that Larsen & Toubro's revenues will climb by 20 per cent from $9.8 billion (Dh35.9 billion) in 2009 to roughly $12 billion by year's end.
Larsen & Toubro operates across several sectors including manufacturing, construction, engineering and financial services.
Malek Al Malek, Managing Director of Dubai Internet City and Dubai Outsource Zone said the headquarters addition is good for Dubai.
