UK milk producer celebrates first export to Middle East

The UK’s Family-run Nemi Dairy now has its products on the shelves of six hypermarkets in the Middle East after it was approached by Y International - the UK export arm of Lulu Group International. Lulu Group International own the Middle East hypermarket chain Lulus. Nemi Dairy is now taking advantage of numerous direct air freight connections between the UK and UAE to export its milk to the region. The milk is pasteurised at the dairy before being transported in chilled vehicles to a temperature-controlled warehouse in Birmingham. Each bottle is then re-packaged with an Arabic label and palletised using special insulating material. It arrives at the airport on chilled vehicles and is air-freighted directly into Lulu’s central warehouse for the GCC in Dubai. The milk is temperature checked constantly throughout the journey and never goes above 5°C. Within days it is on the shelves ready for consumers to buy. “It is incredible to think that our farmers are milking their cows and then days later that milk in on the shelves in the Middle East,” said Andrew Henderson, managing director, Nemi Dairy. “We are delighted to work with Y International and Lulu Group - they are showing a tremendous amount of support to us and our industry and we hope this will transpire into a long-standing relationship.” Lulu Hypermarket chain is the largest of its kind in the Middle East. Currently, Lulu operates 134 stores and 14 malls throughout the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, India and, more recently, Malaysia. “At Y International, we specialise in exporting and managing the chill-chain and it is great when we can champion small British producers like Nemi Dairy,” said Adnan Ahmed, a senior buyer at Y International.Source: http://www.arabiansupplychain.com
