Dubai shows appetite for innovation

August, 29th 2017

The ‘blueprint’ for Dubai’s planned $1.5 billion food park has been unveiled. Spanning 48 million square feet, the Dubai Food Park will be located in Dubai Wholesale City (DWSC), a gargantuan ‘wholesale hub’ which will be developed over the next decade at a cost of US$8.2 billion. The DFP will be home to a facility for recycling organic waste, as well as a number of government services and a wholesale market to service the food, hospitality and retail sectors. It will also “contribute to enhancing food security in the UAE and the region.” Abdulla Belhoul, CEO of Dubai Wholesale City, will be in charge of the food park. He said: “DFP has been established to meet the increased need for specialized logistical services to reduce supply chain costs. The Park will be a one-stop destination for government, administrative and logistical services related to food wholesale, import, export and re-export.” The blueprint was revealed this week by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
